Lori Jackson Black: Historian, Preservationist, and Rock Enthusiast
Lori Jackson Black is a professional genealogist and public historian who has dedicated her career to uncovering and preserving history and cultural heritage. Since 2006, she has operated her own research company and has become a vital figure in local preservation efforts.
Lori’s work is deeply intertwined with the Fairfield Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to archaeology and historic preservation.
- Project Management: In 2024, Lori stepped into a lead role as the project manager for the restoration of the Timberneck Farmhouse at Machicomoco State Park. This major rehabilitation project aims to transform the historic c. 1793 house into a community destination for education and accommodations.
- Research and Reporting: Her scholarly contributions include co-authoring the Gwynn’s Island Historic District National Register Nomination, the Werowocomoco Cultural Landscape Report and editing the Werowocomoco Archaeology Overview and Assessment Report for the National Park Service.
- Academic Pursuits: Building on her MA in Public History, Lori is currently further expanding her expertise as a PhD in History student.
When she isn't documenting historic landscapes or managing restoration sites, Lori is an avid fan of travel and the music scene.
